Job Hunting 101
Looking for a new job, whether you are currently employed or not, can be very overwhelming. Here are just a few tips to help the process go a little smoother:
RESUME
- Update your resume with current work history
- Edit your resume for typos, spelling and grammar errors
- Be willing to customize your resume to match requirements for the job you are applying for
CONTACTS
- Make a contact list of everyone you know; friends, family, colleagues, club members, etc.
- Contact them:
- Let them know you are looking for a new job and what position
- Ask them if they know of anyone who might have a position open
- DO NOT ask them for a job
- Thank them for their time
- Follow up
JOB BOARDS
- There are many free job boards out there; use them.
- Monster.com
- Dice.com
- Glassdoor.com
- TheLadders.com
- Linkedin.com
- LDSjobs.org
- Jobs.Utah.gov
- Jobs.KSL.com
- Careerbuilders.com
- Make sure you follow the application instructions correctly
- Companies will automatically discount those who can’t follow their instructions
