Small Course Corrections

August 6, 2026

Imagine boarding a plane called Carnival Air. You’re excited about where you’re headed, and after takeoff, everything seems to be going according to plan.

But what if the plane is just one degree off course? At first, that tiny difference is almost impossible to notice. The destination still feels far away, and the flight seems perfectly normal. Yet over time, that small deviation grows. Left uncorrected, the plane could end up hundreds of miles from where it was supposed to land.

Pilots know this, which is why they don’t simply point the plane toward the destination and hope for the best. Throughout every flight, they make small, routine course corrections to compensate for wind, weather, and countless other factors.

Life works much the same way.

Few of us wake up one day and intentionally head in the wrong direction. More often, we drift. We get busy. We become distracted. Unexpected roadblocks force us to maneuver around them. Good habits slowly fade. Priorities shift. Small compromises become routines. None of it seems significant in the moment—but over weeks, months, or years, those tiny changes can take us somewhere we never intended to go.

The good news? Just as small changes can lead us off course, small corrections can bring us back.

Mid-Fight Check

Just as pilots routinely check their instruments throughout a flight, it’s worth pausing occasionally to check our own heading. Ask yourself:

✅  Am I still working toward the goals that matter most?

✅  Have my daily habits moved me closer—or farther away—from where I want to be?

✅  Is there one small change I could make today that my future self will thank me for?

✅  Am I spending my time on what matters most, or just what’s most urgent?

✅  Do I need to learn something new, ask for help, or adjust my approach?

The destination isn’t determined by one perfect decision. It’s shaped by hundreds of small choices made along the way.

Success isn’t about never drifting off course.

It’s about noticing the drift, making the adjustment, and continuing the journey with purpose.
